About Beirut

Beirut's location serves it well as it is conveniently positioned on the tip of Lebanon with the largest seaport in the country and the Eastern Mediterranean. Beirut, the Capital City of Lebanon, has over a million inhabitants, and is known to be the commercial and busiest City in Lebanon. The City forms the midpoint between Europe, Asia and Africa which makes it an important stop for ships travelling between East and West. A City left in ruins by war, is over-flowing with history and is surrounded by endless archaeological sites. Downtown Beirut, which is currently being re-constructed, is home to the remains of the various historical periods such as the Ottoman and Phoenician Empires.

It is the vibrant atmosphere that makes Beirut so appealing and dynamic. From street markets, to high fashion shops and traditional cafes, Beirut offers a little bit of everything to its visitors, it is also well known for its theatres, cultural activities, cafes and great nightlife. Temperatures can soar to 41C/105F during summer but usually averages around 30C/85F. Winter tends to be very wet with lower temperatures. Although Beirut has suffered greatly over the years, it is rebuilding itself and it has been named as the number one place to visit in 2009 as well as one of the liveliest cities in the world.
